Lake Wedowee, officially known as R.L. Harris Reservoir, is a beautiful 10,600-acre lake on the Tallapoosa River in east-central Alabama, near the town of Wedowee. Created in 1983 with the construction of R.L. Harris Dam, the lake is known for its exceptionally clear water, forested shoreline, and peaceful atmosphere. What makes Lake Wedowee special is its undeveloped character compared to many Southern reservoirs, giving visitors a more natural and secluded experience. The lake is a favorite destination for bass fishing, boating, swimming, and waterfront recreation, while its deep coves and scenic rolling hills make it one of Alabama’s most picturesque lakes. Its combination of excellent fishing, natural beauty, and relaxed pace has earned Lake Wedowee a reputation as one of the state's hidden gems.
