Granby Lake is a natural body of water located in Grand County, Colorado, United States. It is situated at an altitude of 8,280 feet (2,520 meters) and has a surface area of 7,256 acres (29.36 km²), making it the third-largest body of water in Colorado. The lake was formed by glacial activity during the Ice Age, and it is fed by the Colorado River and other small streams.

Historically, Granby Lake has been an important source of water and recreation for the region. In the early 20th century, the construction of the Granby Dam was completed, which increased the lake's size and provided hydroelectric power. The lake is also a popular destination for fishing, with species such as rainbow trout, brown trout, kokanee salmon, and lake trout commonly found in its waters.

In addition to fish, Granby Lake is home to various wildlife, including bald eagles, ospreys, and moose. The surrounding area also has hiking trails and campgrounds for visitors to explore and enjoy.

An interesting fact about Granby Lake is that it is part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, which is a system of tunnels, canals, and reservoirs that diverts water from the Colorado River to provide irrigation and drinking water for Colorado's Front Range cities. Granby Lake serves as one of the main reservoirs in this project.
