West Point Lake is a man-made reservoir located on the border of Georgia and Alabama, created by the construction of the West Point Dam on the Chattahoochee River. The lake spans approximately 25,900 acres and has over 500 miles of shoreline, making it a popular destination for boating, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

The history of West Point Lake dates back to the early 20th century when the US Army Corps of Engineers began work on the West Point Dam project as part of a flood control and hydroelectric power initiative. The dam was completed in 1974, and the lake was formed as a result.

West Point Lake is known for its abundant fish populations, including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and striped bass, which draw in thousands of anglers each year. The lake is also a popular spot for water sports like boating, water skiing, and wakeboarding.

Aside from its recreational opportunities, West Point Lake is also home to a variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, beavers, and bald eagles. Additionally, the lake is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and is surrounded by scenic forests and parkland.

Some interesting facts about West Point Lake include that it was named after the nearby town of West Point, Georgia, and that it was one of the filming locations for the 1977 movie "Smokey and the Bandit." The lake also played a role in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, as it was the site of the rowing and kayaking events.
