Grenada Lake is a reservoir located in the northern part of Mississippi, USA. It was created by the Grenada Dam, which was built in 1954 for flood control, water supply, and recreational purposes. The lake has a surface area of about 35,000 acres and is surrounded by over 16,000 acres of public land, including forests, parks, and wildlife management areas.
The lake is known for its excellent fishing, particularly for crappie, bass, and catfish. The lake is also popular for water sports, such as boating, skiing, and swimming, and is home to a number of marinas and campgrounds.
Grenada Lake has a rich history dating back to the pre-Columbian era when it was inhabited by Native American tribes. During the Civil War, the area was the site of several battles and skirmishes, and in the 1930s, it was the site of a major flood that devastated the region. The Grenada Dam was built in response to this flood, and it has since provided critical flood control measures for the surrounding communities.
Today, Grenada Lake is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including over 200 species of birds, such as bald eagles, ospreys, and herons, as well as white-tailed deer, turkey, and other mammals. The lake is also home to a number of fish species, including largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish.
One interesting fact about Grenada Lake is that it was the site of a UFO sighting in 1977, known as the "Grenada Lake Incident." Witnesses reported seeing a large, glowing object hovering over the lake before disappearing into the water. The incident remains a mystery to this day.
Another interesting fact is that Grenada Lake has been the site of several major bass fishing tournaments, including the Bassmaster Classic in 1979 and 1996, as well as the 2021 Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour Championship.
