High Rock Lake is a reservoir located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, USA. It was created in 1929 when the High Rock Dam was built on the Yadkin River. The lake is named after a large rock formation that juts out of the water in the northern part of the lake.

High Rock Lake is known for its excellent fishing, particularly for largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, and catfish. It is also popular for recreational boating, water sports, and camping. The lake covers an area of about 15,000 acres and has over 365 miles of shoreline.

In addition to its recreational uses, High Rock Lake has a rich history. The area was home to several Native American tribes, including the Catawba and the Cherokee, before European settlement. The lake was created to generate hydroelectric power for the surrounding area and has been used for this purpose ever since. During World War II, High Rock Lake was used as a training ground for amphibious landing craft due to its similarity to the beaches of Normandy.

Today, the lake is home to a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, and other waterfowl. The lake's fish population is managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to ensure sustainable fishing opportunities for generations to come.

Interesting facts about High Rock Lake include that it is the second-largest lake in North Carolina and was once the site of a popular amusement park called High Rock Lake Park, which operated from 1946 to 1968. The lake is also home to several sunken towns and bridges, which can be explored by divers.
