Old Hickory Lake is a 22,500-acre reservoir on the Cumberland River in north-central Tennessee, stretching nearly 100 miles from the Old Hickory Dam near Nashville upstream toward Carthage. Created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1950s, the lake was named after President Andrew Jackson, whose famous nickname was “Old Hickory” and whose home, The Hermitage, sits nearby. What makes Old Hickory special is its unique blend of history, recreation, and world-class fishing. Known for producing quality largemouth, smallmouth, and trophy striped bass, the lake is a favorite among anglers while also offering boating, camping, and scenic shorelines just minutes from Nashville. Its rich history, easy access, and reputation as one of Tennessee’s premier fishing destinations make Old Hickory Lake a place that generations of outdoorsmen continue to enjoy.
